TikTok for Agents

I’ve recently had a lot of people ask me whether or not TikTok is for Agents and if they should be putting in the time and effort to create a profile, post, and run ads for their business. If you keep up with the latest social media trends and apps, then TikTok seems like it’s the place to be. In Australia, TikTok is the 7th most-used social media platform, however, before you jump in there are a few things you might want to consider.

TikTok Audience

As with any marketing strategy, the first thing you should consider is who is your target audience? The average age of TikTok users in Australia:

  • 18-24 = 58%
  • 25-34 = 28%

However, the fastest-growing age group are people aged 13-17.

While the above numbers may look inviting, especially for people aged 25-35, the most important stat to consider is that only 6% of Australians are actually using the app. This equates to just over 2-million people, which again sounds great, but when you consider how many of those 2-million are within the age range you want to target, or within the location you’re in, that number drops drastically.

Social Media Strategy

When someone asks me if they should start posting on a new social media platform, my first question to them is, “Are you doing all you can on the platforms you currently have? As you can probably guess, the answer is usually No.

When we’re presented with something new and shiny, most of us are likely to jump on it. But this spreads us thin, increases our workload, and will most likely end up being yet another thing that is only half done and inconsistent.

Is TikTok for Agents?

After everything I’ve said above, I don’t want to tell you not to use it. If your strategy and audience align with TikTok and you’re able to consistently create new and engaging content or spend money on advertising, then go for it.

If you’re unable to do any of these things and focusing on TikTok is going to take you away from another task that is more likely to earn you leads and listings, then perhaps TikTok is not for you yet.

If you’re looking for advice on using Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn, I recently joined iRealty for a FREE 45-minute webinar where we discussed attracting leads and listings using Facebook and how to nurture those clients who come through social media.
